Ronin - Spirit of the Sword has been online for years now, but it still boasts some technical aspects that have never been recreated so well, even to this day.

In the Adventure mode of the game, you'll traverse randomly generated dungeons and fight dynamic battles, meaning you can play the game again and again without growing tired of it. This comes with a bit of a downside. To achieve the impression of a pseudo-3D world, the author had to use a lot of repetitive imagery, so it's pretty easy to get lost. Thankfully, there's a map to keep your eye on, and a battle-only Arena mode.

The control within battles is very intuitive when you're using the sword. Blocking, stabbing, and striking feel just how they should, and each enemy reacts and dies in a way that reflects your swordwork. My only qualm is that it's sometimes difficult to use items mid-battle, and almost impossible to cast a spell without taking a hit or two.

One thing I should mention is that this game is 'Not Safe For Work' in almost every way imaginable. There's no shortage of gore, and you'll encounter more naked women than I ever thought existed in a danger-brimming dungeon. This might hurt the public credibility of the game, but I'm able to shrug it off considering what a great foundation it stands upon.

All aspects of the game are well thought out, from the graphics to the sound and well into the technical end. Casual gamers might find it a tad overcomplicated, but anyone willing to invest an hour or two should not pass this game up for any reason.
